First Stop... Fort Lauderdale!

Right at the start of the spring semester, while January was still cold and dreary, Taylor and I started dreaming of places to spend spring break. First, I must clarify. Technically it was his spring break. Turns out, the real world doesn't give you a random week off to soak up sunshine, sleep in late, etc. Fortunately for me, I am evading the real world indefinitely, so I was able to escape for a few (or eight) days without a problem. We always have several intended destinations in our "travel cue," so we figured why not squeeze a few in one trip! My sweet best friend from high school moved to sunny, south Florida a few months ago (and just started blogging about it over here) and has been begging me to come for a visit. Being the selfless friend that I am, I booked a flight as soon as possible.

I could ramble on and on about how wonderful our trip was, but I'll spare you. Before we left I said, "Florida will be fun to visit, but I could never see myself living there." But by the third day (after walking to breakfast and the beach... perfection) I stared memorizing the telephone numbers on "for rent" signs posted in front of cute cottages.

We arrived around midnight Friday night (thanks to the first of several delays by Delta.) But that didn't stop Erin from showing us the town!
Saturday's beach day ended up getting rained out, but we had fun regardless.
Saturday night we ate Mexican and went to downtown Fort Lauderdale
Sunday: delicious brunch at Brio and an afternoon spent shopping.
Saturday night the odds were ever in our favor, so we had dinner and saw The Hunger Games at CineBistro. It was so much fun! I had never been to one before, and I totally recommend it (locations here.) Erin and I were able to split a bottle of wine, the boys had pitchers of beer, and we all chowed down while watching the movie.
Monday E&G had to work, so Taylor and I walked to the beach closest to Erin's apartment. We loved it. White sands, crystal blue waters, and generally deserted, it was perfect for an afternoon of sunning, swimming, and reading. We fit right in with the 80-year-olds who frequent this beach (as opposed to the Fort Lauderdale beach), further confirming that we truly are old souls.
Monday night we went to happy hour at Tap 42. From the rustic wood plank wall to the delicious steamed mussels and shrimp fritters, we loved pretty much everything about this place.
In my opinion, happiness is ending the day outside in the balmy breeze, enjoying great wine and even greater company.

Erin and Guillermo, thanks for a wonderful vacation! Miss you already! xo
